The rolling bearings fitted in the exciter units of these machines must support not only high loads and high speeds but also accelerations and centrifugal forces. In many cases, these applications involve adverse environmental conditions such as contaminated environments and excessive moisture. The special spherical roller bearings developed by FAG are matched to the operating conditions in vibratory machinery and have proved highly successful in practical use. In particular, the cages of the rolling bearings are subjected to stresses arising from high radial accelerations. In unfavourable cases, these may be overlaid by axial accelerations as well. The rotating imbalance generates rotating shaft deflection and additional sliding motion within the bearings. This increases the friction and therefore the operating temperature of the bearings.
